How To: Paper Beads (Indie/Tribe Style)

I've always loved the colorful looks of native american jewelry. I've especially admired the long white beads that are usually made out of bones. This little do it yourself is inspired by tribal jewelry and ELLE magazine pages. It is an easy an inexpensive project.

What You Will Need:
1.) Magazine Pages.
2.) Scissors.
3. Glue.
4. Toothpick.

You can use as many magazine pages as you want, it all depends on how many paper beads you plan to make. Look at all these juicy advertisements!! I loved the brown and turquoise colors, because I'm going for an African tribe look on my beads.

Now pick out a page that you want to start off with...

Next cut it up into triangular pieces, you can use a ruler if you'd like but if you're like me and in a hurry, just estimate.

Perfect. Now grab a toothpick and start rolling...

You want to use the toothpick so that you will be able to run your string through the bead,
don't forget to glue at the beginning, middle and end to help the bead keep it's form.

THE FINISHED PRODUCT.

There are many things you can do with paper beads, here is a sneak peak of the next project I will be working on.

MUCH LOVE,
KENZIE.

Update.

Lately all of my thoughts have been jumbled together. It's like I have all of these wonderful ideas and concepts but yet there are not enough hours in the day. This summer has passed by so quickly I haven't had time to keep up with it... My next few months are going to be an exciting endevour and a new transition in my life. This upcoming week I leave for freshmen orientation, and then in two weeks after that I leave for my Ireland trip. Once I return home I continue to work for two more weeks at my part-time job and then on August 19th I move in to the dorm. Scary stuff. In case any of you are wondering I will be studying merchandising and digital retailing, but I guess my classes for this upcoming fall semester will all depend on the placement tests, my prior college hours, etc. I have received one more scholarship since graduation (which I'm ecstatic about!) for $1,500 per semester. If all goes well and I keep my GPA up, I could receive a total of $9,000. But that is only a small portion of my future tuition costs. Life is expensive. On a lighter note, I have been experiencing a total transition in the way of thinking lately. And for once in my life, at times, I feel at peace. Most of the time it requires silence and recognition. Lately, the happiest moments are when I am busily creating. Because that's what life should be about. Taking  your imagination, and doing something with it...

DIY Picture Frame Jewelry Holder

Hello! Welcome to my new blog. I will be posting a little bit of "this" and "that", including some DIY projects. My first post is a simple and inexpensive vintage-style jewelry holder involving only a few supplies.
What You'll Need:
           1.) An old picture frame
        2.) Three strips of lace
3.) A hot glue gun
    4.) A pair of scissors
I found this old picture frame at a garage sale and bought it as a lot with many other frames. I did not like the color so I used some mint green spray paint that I had lying around the house.

A few layers of paint later...

And voila!
What You Need To Do:
Turn the frame over (after it is completely dry) and warm up your glue gun. Next glue one end on the lace onto the crease of the frame. Stretch the lace to the other side of the frame and repeat the first step. I placed my strips horizontally top, middle, to bottom.
(But you can place however many you want in any way you want!)

The Finished Product:

This is a really fun and easy project that did not take up a lot of time. I know that if you search for these pre-made the prices can be high. Comment and let me know your input or if you would like me to blog about anything else let me know!

MUCH LOVE.<3

Homemade Body Scrub + Link to DIY Pore strips!

Sometimes I think that the internet is one of the best things to ever happen to me! Are  you tired of spending $12+ on Biore pore strips? Here is a link to a quick, and easy DIY pore MASK! (Not just a strip!) ;)
(Photos Not Taken by me!)

My Review on this DIY pore strip: It really did work. Although, it smelled AWFUL. Also, do not pile it on thick in your trouble areas, for instance, I just stacked it on my nose thinking it would be better but it actually took way longer to dry than the other areas on my face. My end verdict, it was fun! I'd do it again!

Brown Sugar/Honey Body Scrub...Mmm!
So for the longest time I have had a screenshot saved in my iPhone of some simple DIY recipes. And yesterday I picked up some brown sugar and decided to give it a try. After I had used the pore strip recipe (found at the above link) I decided to try a facial scrub since I am running low on my own. (Which works great by the way, let me know if you want to know what product I use!)

Products You'll Need:
  • Honey
  • Brown Sugar
  • Small Bowl that can be taken into the shower
  • Measuring Spoons/Cup
First take your brown sugar and measure how much you are willing to use. I did an all over scrub so I used about 2 tbs of brown sugar. Next pour it in a bowl, and get your honey ready. Use the same amount of honey as brown sugar if not a little more. It all depends on how much you want. In the end, it will make your face/body feel 10x cleaner and incredibly soft. Enjoy and try not to eat it! ;)
